Planning a trip to Geelong city and you’re not sure how to spend a fun day there? The Eastern Beach Geelong is the place for you, perfect whether you’re traveling there alone, with your partner, or with your kids.

Located at the city’s waterfront, Eastern Beach Reserve is an iconic place to visit in Geelong. This picturesque swimming and recreation reserve area is located on the shores of Corio Bay, only a couple of moments away from Rydges Geelong. To get here, look for Eastern Beach Road.

Originally built back in the 1930s, this area was often referred to by people as “the people’s playground.” Today, it is still as popular as it used to be, attracting not only locals but also tourists. People see the Eastern Beach Reserve today as the main Geelong beach.

What is Eastern Beach Reserve?

Today, Eastern Beach Reserve is a place where both locals and tourists who are visiting Geelong come to relax. Being home to an enclosed sea bath, boardwalk, diving towers, pools, floating islands, and so many other activities, this place is ideal for taking a relaxing stroll. But it wasn’t always this way!

Back in the days, more than a century ago, the spectacular foreshore we see today was actually considered an ugly part of the city. The only things you could see there were some ugly steep cliffs that made the connection between the city’s northern boundary with Corio Bay.

It was only since 1927 when the area was transformed into the iconic place it is today. An investment of 40,000 pounds later, the Eastern Beach Reserve became the scenic reserve it is today.

When the weather is warm during sunny days, people simply gather there to hang out and enjoy the nice weather and iconic views. The area is now Geelong’s favourite spot for families to spend quality time outdoors together.
